Barb Williams


Barb is an experienced business owner whose proposal to provide lawn maintenance services to West Kootenay Power (now Fortis) at the age of 14 was the catalyst to her entrepreneurial journey.

Barb joined the Basin Business Advisor Program in 2013 and since then has established a proven record of coaching, mentoring and training business owners. She has also developed and delivered workshops on a variety of business topics. She loves crunching numbers, is an Excel and bookkeeping expert and continues to manage two businesses of her own.

As a BBA program Advisor, Barb loves the diversity of businesses she works with and the opportunity of helping business owners with a variety of challenges. She takes a highly customized approach to advisement and enjoys seeing the growth and empowerment of business owners and their businesses.

After graduating from high school in Castlegar, Barb went on to attend the Saskatchewan Institute of Applied Science and Technology (SIAST), from which she obtained a Business Administration diploma, specializing in Computerized Accounting Information Systems. She later instructed Business Administration and Office Education at SIAST.

Based in Nelson since 1993, Barb has been with Community Futures Central Kootenay for more than 26 years, including 18 years working for and managing the Self-Employment Program. In that time, she helped thousands of successful businesses launch.

Barb has also raised five children and is a proud grandmother. She leads an active lifestyle, with long distance road cycling, cooking and functional fitness as her hobbies.
